The Serbian Film Directors Guild (Serbian: Asocijacija filmskih reditelja Srbije, AFRS) is the only professional society of film directors in Serbia. The primary objectives of the Guild are to protect the professional and authors' rights of film directors, improve working conditions within the film industry, and promote the development of film culture in the Republic of Serbia.
AFRS gathers film directors of different generations and artistic approaches, serving as one of the leading voices of the Serbian film community on issues of cultural policy, film legislation, and the professional status of filmmakers.
The Association actively participates in initiatives aimed at advancing Serbian cinematography, protecting authors' rights, strengthening the institutional framework for film production, and safeguarding artistic and personal freedom.
AFRS is a full member of the Federation of European Screen Directors (FERA) and works closely with partner professional organisations in Serbia and internationally to improve the position of film directors and contribute to the development of film culture.
Together with UFUS, AFRS co-founded UFUS AFA Zastita, the collective management organisation responsible for the administration and protection of audiovisual authors' rights.
The Serbian Film Directors Guild was founded on 19 March 2010 in Belgrade. More than sixty film directors attended the founding assembly at the historic Balkan Cinema in Belgrade, including Zdravko Šotra, Goran Paskaljević and Puriša Đorđević, alongside many young directors at the beginning of their careers. Emir Kusturica, Miša Radivojević, Goran Marković, Slobodan Šijan and other prominent figures of Serbian cinema, who were unable to attend, expressed their support for the establishment of the Association and became its members.
The first President of AFRS was Darko Bajić. He was succeeded by Slobodan Skerlić, Srdan Golubović, Darko Lungulov, Ivan Ikić and Miloš Škundrić.
